The best Zimdancehall collaborations of all-time

Zimdancehall has been Zimbabwe’s top music genre for more than a decade now and it has produced several superstars, some of which are still at the top of their game, while others have disappeared into thin air.

However, Zimdancehall has always revolved around the magic that comes from collaborations. It is no doubt that artists are gifted differently, and when two or more artists bring out their A-game on a single track and use their comparative advantages, it will always be a masterpiece.

Zimbabweans have enjoyed several Zimdancehall collaborations that have been released ever since music producers started releasing riddims and most of the times people tend to love certain collaborations over others mainly because their favourite artists would have featured.

As music fans, we have stopped looking at the talent and focused on who is on the track.

This compilation has been easy because we focused on the songs that were released from 15 years back, some of them when Zimdancehall was on the rise.

We did a short survey on people’s favourite Zimdancehall collaborations on WhatsApp and the songs below came out top.

Guspy Warrior ft Sniper Storm and Dadza D – Dancehall Champions

Our first pick is Guspy Warrior’s Dancehall Champions. A rack that he featured Zimdancehall heavyweights Sniper Storm and Dadza D. Dancehall Champions was produced by JMP 10 years ago and till today, fans still regard is as one of the best collaborations.

Winky D & Guspy Warrior – Buss di Shot

Winky D and Guspy Warrior’s Buss di Shot is the first song that come out of people’s mouths if you ask them about their favourite Zimdancehall collaboration. Produced more than 10 years ago, the song became people’s favourite because of the use of patois and their combination in their delivery. It is no doubt to note that Guspy is also in one of the best collaborations, he has always been a top tier artist ever since he came into the spotlight.

Shinsoman and Souljah Love – Hatichabatika

Shinsoman and the late Souljah Love (may his soul rest in peace) were at some point the hottest artists in the country, and when they decided to do a collaboration, it was not surprising that it would become a hit-song. Produced by T-Man of Mount Zion Records off the Voice Riddim, Hatichabatika was released 8 years ago and to date, it is still a people’s favourite and it is easy to find it on different DJs’ mixtapes.

Nutty O & Poptain – Kokai

It took two young talents to make a song that took everyone’s attention, the song was on many people’s Facebook and Instagram stories for a long time. Produced by Dj Tamuka, Kokai by Nutty O and Poptain is on of the best collaborations that was not produced off a riddim. The song even went on to top Trace Africa music charts and it was a springboard for the two artists who had been regarded as the future of Zimbabwean music by arts critics. The song is almost 2 years old and has more than 3 million streams on YouTube.

Freeman – Ngaibake ft. Alick Macheso

Regarded as the most consistent Zimdancehall artist in terms of releasing good music or rather hit songs, it was going to be rather weird not to find Freeman in this list. Freeman and Alick Macheso’s Ngaibake is one of the best Zimdancehall songs to date. Others have however insisted that it is not a Zimdancehall song because it featured a Sungura artist, but who are we not to give Freeman his flowers for a job well done. Ngaibake was released back in 2019 and it was produced by Sunshine.

The debate continues as to the which one is biggest collaboration in Zimdancehall and there are many collaborations that were outstanding but we had to limit them to five only. This is a developing article so you and you might also share with us your take on the best Zimdancehall collaboration of all time.
