Guti Speaks His Mind in His New Project – ‘Northsyd”

From the demarcation of “cool” and “not-so-cool kids” in the Zim Hip Hop industry who are divided by the famous Samora Machel Ave exhume the pseudonyms North and South Samora. North Samora is the low density suburbs where the “cool” kids come from whilst South Samora refers to the high density suburbs where the majority of the rappers hail from.

It is in this light where the EP titled Northsyd by Guti was derived from and it pokes fun at the division between North and South Samora. The EP looks at different aspects of life as encountered by many youths of today.

The first track is an intro to the EP and it was produced by Jinztu Beatz League whose studio is in Mbare. 15 Bill which we featured on this site is the second track whilst Roll comes third on the EP. Roll which Guti wrote on his recent trip to England where he grew up is more of a competitive track against his boys whom he had left behind in Zim.

Track 4 is titled Xugy and is a dedication to his brother who is a staunch supporter of his music. In the track Guti raps about his oans, daijes and rolling blunts as he celebrates fruits of his hard work.

In the track titled dream, Guti raps about how in the north side oans will be balling like it’s the Champions league and exhumes all about his dreams. The Jackass instrumental was used on this track.

I never stop to get what is mine” is what you need to grasp from the sixth track titled On this side which featured Bronx who is currently in Abu Dhabi. The track is a mixture of bars in English as well as vernacular.

Strokeman and Crown and Spectre make up track 7 and 8 respectively. The latter is sort of a war cry which anyone can relate to with no doubt.

Dreadfort which is track 9 on the EP talks about “the dread” referring to dreadlocks as well as well as the character by Ramsey Boltons on the series Game of Thrones. You should give this one an ear.

Flame Lilly II, 1st Eleven and Stamford Bridge make up track 10 to 12 respectively with the last two having a reference to soccer.

The last track on the EP is titled Lancelot (The dark knight). This is mainly about his belief in energy and positive thinking. “The past doesn’t exist and the future is imaginary” is his war cry in this joint.
