European Film Festival Zimbabwe 2021 winners announced

The European Film Festival Zimbabwe 2021 has announced the 5 winners of this year’s BIOSKOP! Zimbabwe Short Film Competition. The 2nd edition of the contest was extended to all filmmakers from across Zimbabwe and in the diaspora (Europe/Africa) running under the theme Life as we now know it.

The winners are: Welensky Chamunorwa Kaseke who produced Animals and received USD 400), for the Best Narrative, Best documentary prize of USD 400 went to Drug Abuse by Ian Mapira, A Borehole Drilling experience by Prosper Kunyetu won Best Sound Editing and scooped the USD 200 prize, Because Its Life by Welensky Chamunorwa Kaseke won Best Cinematography getting USD 200 and Four Walls and a Roof by Keelan Nieuwstadt won the Best Diaspora award and also received USD 200.

After receiving over 50 submissions the high profile jury made up of UK based and multi-award winning film-maker, director and writer Chipo Chung, industry expert and Cineuropa project manager Valerio Caruso, SA based film-star Leroy Gopal, veteran film director and writer Rumbi Katedza and SA based film and TV star Mbo Mahocs.

“Congratulations to all the winners!!! Selection process was challenging, great to see good, solid, concrete films stem out of the industry! Let’s keep telling our stories authentically, we are growing,” said Mbo Mahocs.
